Adelaide based breastfeeding/ chest feeding, lactation and parenting support

Breastfeeding/ chestfeeding is one of the most biologically natural things to do, however, it doesn't always come easy.  Modern day birthing practices, a social history of undermining and disempowering breastfeeding/ chestfeeding and the loss of our village supports has resulted in breastfeeding/ chestfeeding being more difficult than it needs to be.  With the right support, knowledge and empowerment, you can reach your breastfeeding/ chestfeeding goals.  And that is why I am here for you. xx Josie

Josie Plant, RN, IBCLC

Hi! I am Josie, a Registered Nurse  and IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant) based in Adelaide, South Australia, with over 20 years of experience.  I have worked in both acute paediatrics/ neonatal care (hospital based) and community child health services (community clinic and home visiting services), which means I have a vast range of knowledge and experience with infants and children across all ages.

I have been an IBCLC since 2012, helping clients achieve their breastfeeding/chestfeeding goals.  I work in partnership with families, providing evidence based information for informed decision making.

I have personal experience in a WIDE range of breastfeeding challenges from breastfeeding my four children.  You name it, I've dealt with it!  These include:

- breastfeeding twins

- late prematurity

- establishing breastfeeding with infants in the nursery

- tongue and lip ties

- breastfeeding through separation and family court

- breastfeeding a medically complex child

- breastfeeding before and after breast augmentation

- maintaining breastfeeding through major brain surgery

- breastfeeding after radiological procedures

- mastitis

- supply issues

- blocked ducts

- mix feeding

- aversion

- breast refusal

I have a deep understanding and increased level of empathy for how challenging breastfeeding can get!

I respect that breastfeeding/chest-feeding and lactation is not a one size fits all journey and in my experience, not one technique or care plan will work for everyone.  I believe in an individualised approach based on thorough assessment, the goals of your family and the capacity of your family in achieving those goals.  With my support, experience and knowledge, you can feel empowered to reach your goals and we can travel through your lactation journey together.

Thrive with TLC!

I look forward to working with you.

x Josie

Acknowledgment of Country

I acknowledge and pay my respects to the Kaurna Aboriginal people, the indigenous and traditional custodians whose land I work and live on.  I acknowledge the deep feelings of attachment and the spiritual relationship of the Kaurna people to country.  I acknowledge and respect their past, present and ongoing connection to the land and cultural beliefs, and that those cultural and heritage beliefs are still as important to the living Kaurna people today.  I pay my respects to the Elders past, present and emerging.
